Florida SBDC at Florida International University - Grant Administrator
Job Summary
The Florida Small Business Development Center (FSBDC) at FIU, a partnership between the Florida SBDC Network and Florida International University, offers at no-cost a team of business consultants who work with entrepreneurs and business owners in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties to help them grow and succeed. FSBDC at FIU also organizes workshops, seminars, networking events and other events in the community to benefit entrepreneurs and business owners in the region. The Grant Administrator I is responsible for pre-award and post-award administration activities of grants and contracts awarded to the center.
- Works closely with the College of Business (COB) and Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) in managing the pre-award and post-award administration of grants; reviews for grant compliance and approvals and manages all related processes for FSBDC at FIU.
- Assists center leadership in preparation of subcontractor agreements, sponsor agreements, procurement agreements/amendments, and budgets for ORED and FIU Foundation grants.
- Assists center leadership in the development of external funding proposals, preparation of grant budgets, budget modifications and payroll/non-payroll transfers.
- Provide recommendations to center leadership on center strategic planning, payroll forecasts, long-term financial forecasts, and grant implementation.
- Create regular budget reports for center leadership and provides budget analyses and forecasts to ensure accurate program planning and execution of project deliverables.
- Provide grant compliance/oversight by monitoring project budget reports and expenditures.
- Recommends, implements, and interprets policies related to administrative and fiscal activities of the center. Applies University, departmental and other approved policy and procedures to the center.
- Apply strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, problem-solving, and listening skills.
- Travel throughout Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys as necessary.

Florida SBDC at the University of West Florida - Business Consultant
Job Summary
Educate and advise clients on growth strategies, business model concepts and advanced financial forecasting, advanced capital structures and strategies through following network consulting policies and procedures. One-on-one advice and consulting to be provided to include: business and strategic plan development; financial analysis and planning; marketing research and plan development; business management and operations; and basic legal issues. Develop educational materials and present educational programs as appropriate. Outreach to educate clients, partners and stakeholders on SBDC services and impact.
Contribute to knowledge creation and dissemination through communicating with peers and participating in network activities. Significant networking and alliance building with community partners including Economic Development Agencies, Chambers of Commerce, and other community organizations for the purpose of building client service base. Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively. This position requires successful completion of annual professional development hours.
- 40% - Provides in-depth consulting designed to provide clients with new managerial techniques in running a business. Conducts assessments, follow-ups, and gathers impact and feedback from clients and customers. This includes occasional travel to support the SBDC activities throughout the ten-county Florida SBDC at UWF service area. This position requires a valid driver's license and reliable transportation in order to travel to attend meetings and/or events with SBDC clients, strategic partners, and stakeholders. A valid driver's license is also required in order to travel to disaster recovery centers to work during times of a disaster. A valid driver's license is needed in order to travel to professional development training events as well as training events conducted by the SBDC. - (Essential)
- 20% - Provides “process” assistance to persons interested in starting a business and stresses the importance of business planning. This includes guidance and suggestions to the individual along with business plan review. Directs individuals to resources such as the SBA website and other websites for research and development of a business. - (Essential)
- 20% - Provides assistance in preparing, conducting, promoting workshop and seminar training programs. Research, design and develop courses to include power point to deliver training and presentations. This includes promoting special programs available through the Florida SBDC, Business Continuity Planning, Growth Acceleration and Procurement Technical Assistance. Record client consulting sessions by utilizing the Florida SBDC Network CRM System. - (Essential)
- 5% - Become familiar with content of all SBDC workshops and the Florida SBDC Network Professional Development Manual. Participate in continuing education to maintain Florida SBDC Network professional standards and certifications. - (Essential)
- 5% - Submit reports required by FSBDC Network in the CRM System. The purpose of the CRM System is to assist the consultants and account executives in measuring the cost, quantity, quality and impact of the Florida SBDC program. The Small Business Administration (SBA) Form 641, Request for Consulting, will be completed by each person visiting the SBDC in search of information. - (Essential)
- 5% - Maintains confidential client files, including creation of new files, timely update of files, and information, sending surveys and ensuring accuracy of information. Generate numerous reports using the CRM System for impact, surveys and client follow up. - (Essential)
- 5% - Initiates, establishes and maintains relationship with media contacts for promoting SBDC programs and services.
