Proclamation Florida Small Business Day at the Capitol

FLORIDA SMALL BUSINESS DAY AT THE CAPITOL

WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis recognizes that small business is the benchmark for economic prosperity and small businesses are a paramount way to measure economic success — illustrating confidence from job seekers and job creators in our state; and

WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis recognizes the critical need for robust programs, resources, and partnerships to support small business growth; and

WHEREAS, Florida has created a thriving environment for economic growth, with more than 3.5 million new businesses since January 2019 — more than any other state in the nation during the same time period; and

WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of Florida's economy, making up 99.7% of Florida's businesses with Florida small businesses employing 5 million Floridians, 57.2% of the state’s workforce; and

WHEREAS, in Florida, small businesses are able to grow and thrive across all industries, creating jobs and driving innovation in the state, including nearly 27,000 manufacturing establishments, 80% of which have 20 or fewer employees, and more than 46,000 small businesses in the life sciences industry; and

WHEREAS, FloridaCommerce promotes economic prosperity for Florida's small businesses, administering programs that promote access to capital, technical assistance, and business management training, as well as invaluable resources to the state’s small business employers; and

WHEREAS, SelectFlorida assists Florida small businesses in expanding into markets across the globe, and in 2024, supported 1,634 Florida businesses in generating more than $765 million in actual and expected export sales. .

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron DeSantis, Governor of the State of Florida, do hereby extend greetings and best wishes to all observing January 21, 2026, as Florida Small Business Day at the Capitol.
