Drs. Kyle and Samantha Mikals are redefining modern healthcare by returning to its roots—where the doctor comes to the patient’s home and takes the time to truly connect. Their practice offers personalized home and office visits, combining convenience with exceptional quality of care. Dr. Kyle Mikals, a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician, specializes in lifestyle medicine and adult care, particularly for chronic or complex conditions. Dr. Samantha Mikals, an Otolaryngologist (ENT), brings her artistic touch to facial aesthetics and performs auricular acupuncture.
The idea for their business was born from a shared vision of what medicine could be: personal, accessible, and deeply patient-centered. After years of serving as active-duty Navy physicians, the couple transitioned from military service to entrepreneurship, determined to build a practice that reflects their values and expertise.
With over 14 years of combined military medical service, Drs. Kyle and Samantha Mikals bring deep expertise and dedication to their practice. Dr. Kyle Mikals, a Jacksonville native and University of Florida alumnus, brings over eight years of Navy medical experience, with service in Yokosuka, Camp Lejeune, and Walter Reed. He earned his MD from the Uniformed Services University in 2014 and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Walter Reed in 2017. Dr. Samantha Mikals served over six years as a Navy surgeon in Yokosuka and Camp Lejeune. She graduated from the Uniformed Services University in 2013 and completed her Otolaryngology residency at Walter Reed in 2019. A Florida native, she earned her undergraduate degree from UC Davis.
Starting their business came with its share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was relocating from Japan to Florida while simultaneously laying the groundwork for their practice—often working across drastically different time zones. Transitioning from military service to civilian entrepreneurship meant learning the ins and outs of running a business from scratch. And once settled in Jacksonville, they faced the task of building a local network and establishing their presence in the community. They knew they needed assistance and turned to the Florida SBDC at UNF.
The Florida SBDC played a crucial role in helping them navigate this journey. With support in business plan development, website review and optimization, SEO strategies, budgeting, and resources for referrals, the SBDC provided the guidance and tools they needed to launch successfully. When asked about the SBDC assistance, the Mikalses are enthusiastic in their praise. “The SBDC has been so informative and helpful with starting up our business,” they say. “We highly recommend taking advantage of this resource.”
One of the greatest strengths of their practice is that they are both the owners and the physicians. This allows them to quickly implement innovative and personalized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Their hands-on approach ensures that every aspect of the business reflects their commitment to excellence and compassion.
